The Vampire Diaries alum Nina Dobrev has come aboard to star and executive produce Sick Girl, an indie film comedy that will serve as the feature writing and directing debut for Jennifer Cram, the longtime casting associate who most recently was casting director on Showtime’s Ray Donovan.

When my tribe launched the Cherokee Nation Film Office in 2019, we became the third film commission in Oklahoma. The film business was gaining steam in our state, and we wanted in. We had a five-year strategic plan and were ready to slowly make inroads into the industry. Well, the industry had other plans for us. The word “slowly” is not in the film business vocabulary.

Gravitas Ventures has set a VOD/digital release for Sean McEwen’s debut feature Braking For Whales on April 24. The Narrator Entertainment and Charlie Baby Productions film stars Tammin Sursok (Pretty Little Liars), Tom Felton (Harry Potter franchise), Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs), David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy), and Austin Swift (Live By Night).

 Emory CohenIndia Eisley and Sam Strike have been set as the leads of The Dougherty Gang, a new film from writer-director Sean McEwen (Whaling) based on GQ writer Kathy Dobie’s magazine article about the real-life siblings who embarked on a cross-country crime spree in 2011. Tess Harper, Cory Hardrict and Treat Williams also star in the drama being produced by Narrator Entertainment, Big Cat Productions and Charlie Baby Productions.

The state House of Representatives on Thursday passed Senate Bill 608, also known as the Filmed in Oklahoma Act of 2021, which would create a more robust film incentive program for the state.  SB 608 passed the state Senate on Wednesday, so it now moves on to Gov. Kevin Stitt's desk to await his signature.
